Bikes Without Borders is a federally registered Canadian non-profit organization using bikes and bike-related solutions as a tool for development in marginalized communities.

Who will Benefit from our Services

Bikes Without Borders serves marginalized communities in both the developing and developed worlds where bikes and bike-related solutions can have a significant, positive impact on community development.   

e.g. rural farmers in impoverished communities in South America, at-risk youth in Toronto, communities in Africa with high incidences of HIV/AIDS.

Primary Benefits and Services to Clients

1) BWB consults with communities and community-based organizations to assess unique local needs, develop bike-related solutions to those needs, and implement programs that realize those solutions.

            Example:   design + develop a bike rental program for farmers in rural Peru, using bikes donated by communities in Canada.

            Example:   develop a bike-related employment program for at-risk youth in Toronto.

            Example:   distribute bikes to HIV/AIDS care and support workers in Africa, with the assistance of a local NGO partner.

2) Design, develop, manufacture, market and distribute a bike for impoverished communities, bringing the cost to an extremely affordable level and partnering with micro-credit organizations to offer credit solutions for purchasing.

3) Design, develop, manufacture and distribute pedal-powered technological solutions for the developing world   e.g.   bike-powered water pumps and generators.

Community

Bikes Without Borders is organized around the concept of community. Our efforts will make direct, measurable, positive contributions to the communities where our programs take place and we will work with them in a spirit of collaboration and respect.   By focusing on communities and community building, the individuals within those communities will, as a result, be empowered.   Communities that we work with will be enriched through our efforts, as will we be enriched for working with them.

Everything we do is guided by the principles of respect for the planet and all its peoples.

Collaboration

BWB listens deeply and respectfully to the members of the communities that it seeks to assist.   BWB's programs are developed from a 'bottom-up' approach, rather than a 'top-down' approach, with extensive input from and collaboration with the local community where programs are to be implemented.

Fun

We strive to bring fun and enjoyment to everything we do.   Our workplaces, our programs, and our events are places where laughter and fun are cultivated and celebrated.

Ingenuity + Innovation

We will cultivate an atmosphere that encourages and nurtures ingenuity, innovation and creativity. By not routinely accepting the status quo and questioning established ways of 'doing things', we will undoubtedly discover new and exciting ways to serve our mission.

We believe every action we undertake has repercussions and consequences.   Recognizing our interconnectedness, we acknowledge that our actions have consequences not just in our immediate environment, but also on a global scale, and we endeavour to always make our actions positives ones.

We will act with honesty and integrity in everything we do.   We are responsible for our actions, accountable for our results, and if we make a mistake we will own up to it.   Our programs will be designed with accountability in mind, with measurable results and specific targets and goals.
